The core idea

What actually predicts whether a golf member renews?

Social liquidity — how many different people a member can comfortably get a game with. A golfer woven into an open web of playing partners has many reasons to keep their membership. A golfer whose entire playing life runs through a single partnership is one relocation, injury, or fallout away from lapsing (Coupled Churn) — and a tee-sheet shows none of it.

Clubs measure rounds played, spend, and handicap. None of those reveal the thing that governs tenure: whether a member has a durable social reason to be there next season. SYNQ reads that social fabric from the data a club already holds — tee bookings, competition entries, event attendance — and turns it into a live map of who is bonded, who is drifting, and who is quietly alone.

The model

The four-ball problem: closed dyads vs open graphs

SYNQ classifies each member into a connection state and predicts tenure from it. Bonded members embedded in an open playing graph are the renewal base. The real risk sits with the “weakly connected” — members tethered to one or two regular partners — because the moment that thread breaks, there’s nothing structural holding them to the club.

The intervention writes itself once you can see it: pair the weakly-connected member into a roll-up or a mixed four-ball before renewal season (Re-Bonding), not after they’ve gone quiet.
